Cutthroat Cove Cleansed

–The Colonial Chronicle

The Pirate Cove, also known as Cutthroat Cove, is the fourth scenario in Paint the Town Red. It was added in Early Access Verison 0.4.

Pirate Cove is the first level to feature 2 variants of itself, one being night time and the other being day. It is also the first proper scenario to have environmental hazards, including two cannons, ocean water, fire and sharks.

Pirate Cove has a total of 66 enemies (1 enemy is not required to be killed to complete the scenario).

Strategy[]

  • This level's "restricted areas" are the dueling platform (the area on the beach where two pirate captains start at) and Blackbeard's room in the main building.
  • You can lure enemies close to the water and use Shockwave, or kick them. (Shockwave is most effective to deal with large groups of enemies)
  • You can try luring Blackbeard to the campfire to set him ablaze and gradually weaken him. However, watch out to not trip over the fire yourself, as it can inflict considerable damage to the imprudent player.
  • Be careful when you are fighting in the main building, as the numerous enemies in this area, the very cramped space, and the multiples dead-ends can get you surrounded very easily.
  • Another way of killing enemies is to kick them into the water, but be careful to not fall in it as it will kill you instantly.

Trivia[]

  • The music that used to play in-combat was "Curse of the Scarab" by Kevin MacLeod. The track was eventually replaced with original music from the game.
  • The music that used to play before combat was "Slow Heat by Kevin MacLeod. The track was eventually replaced with an original game soundtrack.
  • Pirate Cove is the first official scenario to have more than one projectile weapon, as there are two flintlock pistols hidden in certain places, and two cannons ready to be fired.
  • There are multiple sharks swimming around in the level which will eat enemies knocked into the water.
  • Following the release of Beneath, a secret Acolyte carving Rune symbols into a wall with a hammer and chisel can be found by hopping across the rocks near the pirate ship. He will become hostile if you disturb him, but isn't actually required to kill in order to beat the level. The rune carved on the rock will glow red as enemies are killed in the level.
  • Pirate Cove is currently the only scenario lacking a way to pause the combat music because the accordion pirate drops their accordion upon starting the fight, leaving nobody to provoke.
